Does Drinking Water Help Lose Weight?

The survival of any living thing depends on two factors: food and water. According to Archiv Fur Kriminologie, the human body can survive for up to 2 months if it has access to enough water.  However, without water the human body is able to survive for no more than 3 days. This is due to the fact that water makes up as much as 70% of our body weight. In addition, it is the water that helps remove toxins, controls digestion, regulates body temperature and has a beneficial effect on the skin and hair.  Water also helps lose weight.

water lose weightMany of us want to lose weight by following a proper diet, exercising and changing our eating habits. The more we manage to make positive changes to our lifestyle, the faster and easier it is to achieve our desired goal. Although diet and activity are proven methods, they will be of little use without one important skill – persistence. It is thanks to persistence that we can see the effects of changing our lifestyle.

Not many people know, but a simple and effective habit that will help us keep our weight in check is drinking water. Being properly hydrated every day has a lot of benefits:

We are not hungry, just thirsty.

Sometimes the body can’t tell the difference between hunger and thirst. So if you are tempted to snack, drink a glass of water first. Most likely we’re just thirsty.  The right amount of water will make us feel full and keep us from consuming extra calories.

Water helps us eat less.

Drinking water before meals has weight loss benefits. This is scientifically proven. In a study, it was observed that people who drank water before a meal ate about 100 calories less. 100 calories may not seem like much.  However, when you add up 100 calories over the course of an entire year, it comes to 36,500 calories.  This number is equivalent to losing 10 pounds of weight without much effort.

Water helps in better digestion of food.

Drinking plenty of water makes it easier to digest meals and prevents unpleasant constipation. Moreover, water is important for our kidneys.  Thanks to water they work more efficiently.  This reduces the risk of stone formation in kidneys.

To conclude, drinking water helps lose and control weight.  All the same, always remember that it is important to drink water from a clean and reliable source. Contaminated water can contain elements such as dust, metals, toxins and microorganisms which can lead to health problems in the future.  So, you should invest in a good water filter to live a safe and healthy life. Finally, avoid consuming too much or too little water.  You know your body’s requirements.  Try to satisfy them accordingly.
